New Install Process - Florida 5 Star Roofing

Install Process

A standard roof installation schedule is shown below for your reference.

Please note that each project is unique, and adjustments may be needed. Depending on product availability, budget, and additional requirements, the products used in a roofing installation may be different than listed below. We strive to always use the best and to stand out above the competition.

Initial Consultation & Permitting

Consultation: We’ll assess your roof and finalize the product selection, including the CertainTeed Landmark shingles with a 130 mph wind rating and color-matching accessories.

Permitting: Apply for necessary local permits, ensuring compliance with all county building codes. This typically takes 1-3 days, depending on the county’s processing times. We are using Orange County as the reference of 1-3 days.

Scheduling & Ground Protection

Project Scheduling: Set up a convenient timeline for the roofing project, with consideration for weather and homeowner availability.

Ground Protection: Install tarps, plywood, and other protective materials around the property to safeguard landscaping, windows, and exterior features from debris during the tear-off and installation phases.

Old Roof Removal & Decking Inspection

Existing Roof Rip-Out: Carefully remove the old roofing materials, including shingles, nails, underlayment, and flashing. We’ll dispose of all debris in a designated on-site dumpster.

Decking Inspection: Inspect the roof decking for any rot, damage, or weakness. Replace any compromised decking to ensure the structural integrity of the new roof. Nail down loose decking as needed for additional stability.

Ice and Water Shield, Drip Edge & Underlayment Installation

Ice & Water Shield: Install CertainTeed’s Winter Guard® underlayment in valleys and around critical roof areas (e.g., chimneys, skylights, eaves) to prevent water infiltration.

Drip Edge Installation: Attach drip edge along the perimeter to prevent water from running under the shingles and protect the fascia.

Underlayment: Install CertainTeed Roof Runner® synthetic underlayment for added water resistance beneath the shingles.

Sealing, Flashing, Starter Strip, and Nailing

Sealing and Flashing: Install new flashing around chimneys, vents, skylights, and roof edges to ensure waterproofing. Use high-quality sealant to prevent leaks.

Starter Strip: Lay down the CertainTeed Starter Strip along the eaves and rakes to improve wind resistance and shingle adhesion.

Decking Nailing: Secure the decking with approved nails, ensuring proper spacing for wind mitigation compliance.

Shingle Installation & Accessories

Shingle Installation: Begin installing the CertainTeed Landmark shingles, ensuring each row is properly aligned and nailed according to manufacturer guidelines to achieve the 130 mph wind rating.

New Accessories: Install matching roof accessories, including vents, pipe boots, and flashing, chosen to complement the color and style of the new roof.

Hip & Ridge Shingles

Hip and Ridge Installation: Install CertainTeed Shadow Ridge® or Mountain Ridge® hip and ridge shingles to complete the roof. These shingles are designed to blend seamlessly with the Landmark shingles while providing extra protection along roof ridges.

Wind Mitigation Inspection

Wind Mitigation Inspection: Schedule and complete a wind mitigation inspection to verify that the new roof meets Florida’s wind-resistance standards. This can potentially lower homeowners’ insurance premiums due to increased storm protection.

Final Cleanup & Disposal

Final Cleanup: Thoroughly clean the worksite, ensuring that all debris, nails, and old roofing materials are removed. We’ll use magnetic rollers to pick up stray nails and leave your yard in pristine condition.

Disposal: Properly dispose of all old roofing materials and trash according to local environmental regulations.

Final County Inspection & Internal Audit

County Inspection: Schedule a county inspection to ensure the new roof complies with all local building codes.

Internal Audit: Conduct a final walkthrough and quality audit to ensure that every aspect of the installation meets our high standards for workmanship and customer satisfaction.

10-Year Workmanship Warranty

Warranty: Upon project completion, we provide a 10-year workmanship warranty, guaranteeing the quality of our installation. In addition to this, CertainTeed offers a limited lifetime warranty on the Landmark shingles themselves.

This detailed schedule allows for smooth project execution while ensuring top-quality craftsmanship and customer satisfaction. Our meticulous attention to detail—from planning to cleanup—ensures that your new roof will be durable, beautiful, and built to last.
